37 killed in series of car bomb attacks in Iraq

37 people were killed in a series of car bomb attacks in Iraq. According to local authorities, 11 car bombs struck Shiite-majority areas in Baghdad province. More than 120 were wounded in the attacks. The bombs struck at nine different places.

The deadliest attacks occurred in Kadhimiyah, a Shiite area in north Baghdad where seven people were killed and 19 were wounded. Sunni militants have carried out string of attacks in the country in recent months. Yesterday, a suicide bomber attacked a Shiite mosque.

Last week, bombs targeting Shiite community killed 73 people and two blasts at a Sunni mosque killed 18 people. So far, 850 people have been killed in September and more than 4,600 people have been killed this year.
