Election Commission extends deadline for filing nominations by a week

The Election Commission (EC) has announced that it has extended the deadline for filing nominations under both the proportional and first-past-the-post (FPTP) electoral system by a week. EC officials have stated that the extension will not affect the CA poll scheduled for November 19

The EC decided to extend the deadline after the government and major political parties made the request for extension. Political parties will now have to file nominations under the proportional system by September 30 and under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system by October 3.

Major political parties have been trying to bring the CPN-Maoist and other fringe parties on board to participate in the CA poll. But the CPN-Maoist has demanded resignation of the current interim government first.
