Domestic airlines cancel flights due to fog blankets across the country

According to the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), domestic airline halted flights yesterday due to thick fog at most airports in the country. More than 45 flights were cancelled from Kathmandu yesterday and other flights were delayed by more than two hours. Domestic airline have reported huge losses due to flight cancellations across the country.

According to domestic airlines, cancellation of a round trip from Kathmandu to Lukla results in a loss of Rs 300,000 per flight. Although the TIA had fair visibility, fog blankets in  Pokhara, Bhadrapur, Tumlingtar, Simara, Dhangadhi and Lukla hampered domestic flight across the country.

The domestic airlines could not operate any flights on the six sectors yesterday. Buddha Air had to cancel more than 12 flights. But domestic airlines were able to operate fights to Biratnagar, Bhairahawa, Janakpur and Bharatpur. Yeti Airlines reported 20 cancellations. More than 170 domestic flights take place daily from Kathmandu.
