Traffic Police takes action against cab drivers with tampered meters

The Kathmandu Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) has reported that it has taken action against 349 cab drivers in the valley for tampering their taxi meters. The MTPD had launched the drive against dishonest cab drivers 12 days ago. The traffic police has also deployed plain-clothes officers to take action against such taxi drivers who are cheating passengers with rigged meters.

The traffic police has also taken action against drivers who are reluctant to drive the passengers with the regular meter fare and those demanding high charge during the night. Earlier, the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had directed the concerned government agencies to take action against dishonest cab drivers in the valley.

The MTPD has also launched a crackdown against jaywalkers in the valley. In the past one week laone, more than 4,000 jaywalkers were disciplined for breaking the law. The MTPD has also taken action against public vehicles for not following the seat allocation system for people with special needs. More than 8,000 public vehicles were fined for not providing seats to senior citizens and disabled passengers.
